Get surgically precise control over your transients using the Bittersweet Pro V3 Frequency-Dependent Transient Designer Software from Flux. This Pro version of the software lets you process your choice of the frequency spectrum, letting you zero in on the exact problem areas while leaving the rest of the audio alone, making Bittersweet Pro closer to a dynamic EQ rather than a traditional compressor/expander.
Transient designer simulates voltage-controlled amplifiers and uses envelope followers to sculpt the dynamics of a sound, allowing you to decrease or increase the level of the sound's transient attack as well as its sustain or tail. This kind of in-depth control lets you push the attack portion of your drum sound for punch and energy, or dampen it for roomy snares that ring out longer. Bass, guitar, and room mics can also greatly benefit from this kind of processing, giving you extended low end, beefed up solos, and exciting ambience effects.
Bittersweet Pro supports dual preset slots with parameter morphing for exciting effect changes that you can automate in the mix. In addition, the program supports side-chaining along and mid-side processing that can help you get better results in some instances, especially with drums and panned rhythmic instruments. The Geek Pane unlocks a menu of advanced settings, supplying extended transient control and additional monitoring options.
- Output gain: -24 dB to +24 dB gain range applied to the processing output before the soft clipper
- Soft clipper: Applied at the very last stage of the processing path to carefully round the edges of the clipped peaks for a smoother sound
- Detector sidechain: Filtered in accordance with the frequency range setting and its low-cut, high-cut, and band-pass filters; the filtered sidechain extraction can be audited with a simple button click
- External side chain: Available in AU (Mac OS X), AAX Native, and DSP (Mac OS X and Windows) only
- True bypass control: Routes the incoming signal directly to the output for a smooth transition between clean and processed signal
- Frequency range: Sets the actual frequency range to be processed (20 Hz to 20 kHz—lower, 40 Hz to 20 kHz—upper) The frequency extraction can be audited with a simple button click
- Speed: Alters the mode for the processing of the transients, controlling the envelope smoothing and generating a natural attack (Fast/Medium/Slow)
- Dynamic gain: Adjusts the gain of the transients and/or the sustain
- Static gain: Controls the actual gain of the Frequency Range filter envelope ( -24 dB to +24 dB)
- Geek pane: Advanced settings with an additional range of parameters providing extended control of the transient processing envelope
- Attack, Hold, and Release: controls for adjusting the attack, hold, and release times for the transient processing
- To enhance the workflow the two Preset/Parameter slots, A and B, can be loaded with two full set of parameters at the same time.
- An automatable Morphing Slider morphs between setting A and setting B for real-time creative tweaking
- A Global Preset containing both the A and B settings and the position of the Morphing Slider can be saved
